Review: Disclosure Day

For the film audience who refuses to be limited, Disclosure Day takes us to places beyond our comprehension. Thought provoking prose paired with our wildest daydreams, this film taps into the very core of what our society needs right now: hope, truth, faith, unity, and a sense of resolution in the midst of chaos of our current existence.

Match made in heaven, Director Steven Spielberg and Composer John Williams have gifted us with another iconic blockbuster that perfectly brings together their unlimited imaginations and capabilities, creating an effect that will give you goosebumps, electric joy, and leave you completely awestruck.

Experiencing yet another sweeping Williams score for the first time brought me back to a sense of childhood whimsy and a genuine belief in magic. Spielberg’s story follows similar patterns to his iconic hits of the past, yet individualizes itself in the way it tackles on the polarization and conflict of today’s society. The majority of iconic films have been blessed by this pairing, and I am so grateful that they decided to come together one more time.

Emily Blunt pushes beyond the limits of what society has deemed her capable of to reveal another side of herself equally enchanting and compelling. Josh O’Connor weaves through a tapestry of emotions and draws the audience in, creating not just a “performance,” but a very real, human moment.

Coleman Domingo carries the wisdom of his character so warmly that it gives the audience a sense of comfort even in the midst of tense moment. Domingo is empathy personified to even the least deserving, displaying a true integrity not just in his character, but the message of the film altogether.

This film is important to this moment because it speaks to the core of our humanity and dare I say “the meaning of life.” The societal idea of reality tries to enforces the idea that imagination should just stay in it’s lane. We put limits on reality and force it into a box so we can comprehend it. However, when we live with an open mind, we discover that reality can actually be unlimited.

The most important thing Disclosure Day does is encourage the idea that we do not need to understand everything, and it gives us permission to relinquish that self delegated responsibility to come to terms with everything. The freedom that comes with letting go of that mindset will make the time we have on this precious planet much more meaningful and free.

So go ahead, believe that aliens exist (I know I do), but my friends, please learn from this movie: don’t let fear of the unknown negatively shape the way you perceive who these aliens are…you never know when a loving alien like E.T. will want to be your friend.
